Why Location Matters for Flood Insurance
Your flood risk — and your rate — depend heavily on where you live: your FEMA flood zone, your elevation, nearby rivers or coastline, and local drainage. Two homes a mile apart can pay very different premiums. As a Lloyd’s of London coverholder, California Flood Insurance shops your specific address across multiple specialty flood markets, each with a different appetite, to find the carrier most likely to cover your home well and at the best price — something a single-carrier agent or the NFIP can’t do.
Private Flood Insurance Across California
For most California homes, private flood insurance is the better choice: better coverage, higher limits, and usually a lower price than the NFIP. The federal NFIP caps building coverage at $250,000 and excludes extras like loss of use — private policies can go further. (The exception: homes with prior flood claims or repetitive losses often need the NFIP, and we’ll tell you honestly if that’s your situation.)
